Official Contest Rules


This Contest is sponsored by Grove/Atlantic, Inc. (the “Sponsor”), located at 841 Broadway, New York, NY 10003


NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. The Contest is open to adults 18 and over throughout the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia. Employees of the Sponsor, its affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising or promotion agencies, and family or friends of the author of Alif the Unseen, G. Willow Wilson (the “author”), are ineligible.  Offer void outside the United States and wherever prohibited or restricted by law.


To enter the Contest, submit your entry to Grove/Atlantic, Inc. via by 11:59PM EST of Monday, August 13thOnly one entry per person and per e-mail address will be accepted. Subsequent attempts made by the same individual to submit multiple entries using multiple e-mail addresses or otherwise will be disqualified. In the event of a dispute over the identity of an entrant, entry will be deemed submitted by the authorized account holder of the e-mail address associated with the entry. Authorized account holder is defined as the person assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, on-line service provider or other organization responsible for assigning e-mail addresses. All materials submitted become the property of Sponsor and will not be returned.

Contest begins at 12:01AM EST on Friday, July 13th and ends at 11:59PM EST on Monday, August 13th.


One (1) first place winner will be selected by the author and will receive a $100.00 gift certificate to the independent bookstore of their choice, a panel from one of G. Willow Wilson’s graphic novels, and a signed copy of ALIF THE UNSEEN. One (1) second place winner and one (1) third place winner will also be selected by the author and each will receive a signed copy of ALIF THE UNSEEN.

The approximate retail value of the first prize is $125.00. The approximate retail value of the second place and third place price is $25.00.


The first, second, and third place winners will be selected by the author at her discretion. The odds of winning will depend upon the number of qualified entries. 

The Sponsor reserves the right to use all creative materials submitted to the contest to promote the contest and ALIF THE UNSEEN in all forms of media throughout the world in perpetuity.

Any entrant who submits copyrighted material that is not his own, or submits any obscene material, in the sole discretion of Sponsor, will be barred from participation in the contest.

The three winners will be notified by e-mail message within five business days following the end of the contest. . If  Sponsor does not receive a response from any potential winner within seven (7) business days of attempted notification, such winner may be disqualified and such prize will be awarded to an alternate winner, in Sponsor’s sole discretion.  The Sponsor agrees not to share the winners’ personal information with any outside or third party or to use it to enroll the winners’ on any promotional list. 



By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and Conditions, which shall be final, and waive any right to claim any ambiguity in the Contest and/or these Official Rules and Conditions. Sponsor reserves the right to withdraw, terminate, or change the Contest, or to change the Official Rules and Conditions, at any time without prior notice.

Neither Sponsor, any telephone network, nor service providers are responsible for incorrect or inaccurate transcription of entry information, or for any human error, technical malfunctions, lost/delayed data transmission, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, line failures or any telephone network, computer equipment, software, inability to access any Web site or on-line service, or any other error or malfunction, or late, lost, illegible, incomplete damaged, postage-due, mutilated or misdirected entries or entries not properly forwarded to Sponsor. Entry materials that have been tampered with or altered are void. If Sponsor determines, in its sole discretion, that there is any suspected or actual electronic tampering with the Contest or if technical difficulties compromise the integrity of the Contest, Sponsor reserves the right to void the entries at issue and conduct a random drawing to award the Prize using all eligible entries received as of the termination date. If the Contest is terminated due to tampering or technical difficulties prior to its expiration date, notice will be posted at Any attempt to deliberately damage the content or operation of this Contest is unlawful and subject to legal action.

By participating in the Contest, entrants agree to release, discharge, and hold harmless Sponsor, author, and its and their respective affiliates and subsidiaries, and their officers, directors, members, employees, subcontractors, representatives, and agents, including its and their advertising, promotion, selling and fulfillment agencies, from any and all liabilities, expenses or damages arising from the Contest, the awarding or use of any prize, and the administration of the Contest.  Entrants understand and acknowledge that any applicable taxes are the sole responsibility of the winners of the Contest.

Any dispute arising from the Contest will be determined according to the laws of the State of New York, without reference to its conflict of laws principles, and the entrants consent to the personal jurisdiction of the State and Federal Courts located in the State and County of New York and agree that such courts will have exclusive jurisdiction over all such disputes.
